Frequently Asked Questions

  • How Should I Manage Severe Tooth Pain at Home Before Seeing a Dentist?

Over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen can help alleviate discomfort. Applying a cold compress to the affected area may also reduce swelling and pain. Avoid placing aspirin directly on the tooth or gums.

  • What Should I Do if I Knock Out a Tooth?

If possible, retrieve the tooth by the crown (not the root), rinse it gently with water, and place it back into the socket. If reinsertion isn't possible, store the tooth in milk or a saline solution and seek emergency dental care immediately.

  • Are Dental Emergencies Covered by Insurance?

Many dental insurance plans cover emergency dental care. It’s advisable to check with your insurance provider to understand your coverage and any out-of-pocket costs.

  • Can I Prevent Dental Emergencies?

While not all emergencies can be prevented, wearing mouthguards during sports, maintaining good oral hygiene, and avoiding habits like chewing hard objects can reduce the risk of dental injuries.

  • What if I Have a Dental Emergency Outside of Regular Office Hours?

Dental Arts of Exeter strives to accommodate emergency cases during office hours. For after-hours emergencies, contact our office, and we will provide guidance on the next steps.
